Time, That Fleeting Thing!

by gilprice on March 29, 2009

As the lists of things which need to get done in my life keeps growing, my ability to get them done keeps falling further and further behind.  The one good thing is, I do use one of the many various methods to keep track of the things I am not doing, so I am well aware of what I am not doing!

I do need to find a way to get my personal life in order, the “various Getting Things Done methodologies” I use; have my work life in great order, nothing goes undone or past due at work, not to say “everything” gets done in a timely manner, but with the system I use, it’s fairly easy to prioritize, the items low in the priority list do get accomplished in the slack periods which arise from time to time, it’s just a matter of keeping them on the radar, so to speak.

But when I am at home, in my cave, in my sanctuary, I rest!  I have been called lazy by those closest to me.  For some reason, I’m just not as motivated when I am at home, but if I mean to subscribe to the adage, that everything I do, every purchase I make, every decision I contemplate, everything either is good for the family or not, and if not; it doesn’t get done, purchased or decided.

So how to make more time?  Bigger clock?  I guess I need to look at the problem as a motivational issue, part of the problem is I go to bed between 9 and 10 PM on work nights, Friday and Saturday I’m lucky to get to bed by 1 AM.  I get up at 4:30 AM on workdays, between 6:30 and 7 AM on weekends.  I seem so tired on the weekends and really do not seem wide awake until 4 or 5 PM.

In order to get my weekend life under control, from this day forward, I will treat my weekends like I treat my work week, bed at a decent hour, up at 4:30 AM, to work by 6:30 and no rest and relaxation until mid-afternoon.

Vacations are when I’ll let my schedule go to hell, though my vacations are few, we do take a week every summer, so until the next vacation, I’m going to try out this modified weekend schedule and see if I can knock down the list of items to do down to a managable half dozen or so (list currently over 50 items).

I’ll return to this issue in the coming weeks to show you how I am doing…
